Kagoshima

As we got to Kagoshima, I snapped a picture. Yes, women do still dress this way in Japan. Just not very many women.

We were really close to the active volcano now. That doesn't look close, but believe me, it was plenty close enough for me.

The entrance to a shrine. We didn't actually visit it. We were going to the gardens next door.

At the entrance to the gardens, there was a replica of a samurai's armor.

Charles at the garden entrance

It was large and quite pretty on an overcast day

You may not be able to tell, but there are ashes on the ground. Depending on the direction of the wind, it "snows" ash pretty frequently here. Not good for cars, clothes, and other things, but apparently quite good for plants.

We finally got to our hotel room and checked in. This is the view from the room. It was a really nice hotel, with real beds and real pillows. No more sleeping on tatami mats for me!
