On our train, we sat right behind the engineer. He had to make all kinds of hand signals while he was driving. I think that is because he is filmed by cameras.
The countryside to Nagasaki was beautiful.
The sapporo company also makes tea, in addition to beer.
We arrived in Nagasaki on July 10th. The first thing we did after we checked in, was get some dinner. This is champon, a dish famous in Japan. We are eating it at the restaurant that invented it. Fortunately, the restaurant was right across the street from our hotel.

Nagasaki is a port city. It was bombed by the US at the end of WW2. It wasn't the first choice, but bad weather meant it became the target. However, visual sight was required for the bombing, and thus the actual bomb was dropped two miles from the port, in an industrial center, and the mountains protected some of main city. Nevertheless, according to the Radiation Effects Research Foundation, between 60-80 thousand people died from acute conditions caused by the bomb, with more later dying from long term radiation-related illnesses. Here is the port, we had a nice dinner watching the sunset.
later that night, we went to one of the three best scenic lookouts in Japan. It was a stunning view that the camera just can't capture.
